Don’t miss out on cancelled therapy sessions ever again
6 May 2024
As parents of children with disability, we’re well aware that life doesn’t always go according to plan. Sudden changes and cancellations are part of the routine, especially when it comes to appointments.
If you find yourself needing to cancel an appointment with your child’s NDIS-funded therapist, there’s a silver lining. Even with less than a week’s notice, you’re typically still responsible for the appointment fee, using your child’s plan to cover the cost.
But here’s the good news: you don’t have to miss out. Since you’ve already paid for the scheduled time, you can suggest alternative ways for the therapist to utilize that slot, even if your child won’t be present.
Here are a few ideas you can propose to make the most of the prepaid session:
- Crafting a social story tailored to an upcoming event or activity
- Developing a visual schedule for home or school use
- Making a list of engaging activities for you to enjoy with your child at home.
- Providing a report to share with your child’s educators, outlining progress and strategies
So, the next time the unexpected happens and you need to cancel a therapy session, reach out to your child’s therapist. Share one of the suggested activities or propose your own innovative idea to make the most of the reserved time.
