Description: Aims to transform the hospital experience for adolescents through creative workshops and ward-based activities that enhance creative skills, self-development and social connections relevant to the typical adolescent experience. Siblings visiting their brother or sister are invited to join in program activities. In Victoria, the program is run at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

Target Group: Adolescents aged 12 to 20 years

Description: The Big Mouth Camp is a joint venture of the Communication Aid User’s Society and DEAL Communication Centre. It is a residential camp for children/young adults (school age) using electronic communication devices and their families (including siblings) and carers.

The aim of the camp is for those using the electronic devices to improve their device use and become much more competent communicators in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Another aim of the camp is the provision of separate sibling recreation sessions each morning to give the siblings of those using the electronic communication devices their own special time and attention.

Families are advised to express their interest for placement in either camp. For families and siblings of a school age person using an electronic communication device. School age siblings will most benefit from the sibling recreation sessions.

The camp costs $200.00 per family. This price includes all members of the family as well as carers/integration aides etc. It is worth noting that scholarships are available to assist with this fee. The camp offers placement for a ceiling number of 15 families.

Target Group: Families with a school age person who has a primary physical disability and use an electrical communication device, school age.
Disabilities: Complex communication needs requiring an electronic device.

Description: The Epilepsy Foundation runs a three day family weekend away which offers support and respite/recreation for families caring for a child with epilepsy. Siblings have the opportunity to mix with other siblings in an informal relaxed environment. Families are supported by trained volunteers and Epilepsy Foundation staff. the Epilepsy Foundation is able to submit applications for families requiring financial assistance. The camp is usually held at Anglesea.

Target Group: Families of children with epilepsy up to 18 years.
Disabilities: Epilepsy
Days of operation: Usually a weekend in Term 1 school holidays.
